Not Your Average Date – The North Face Endurance Challenge Half Marathon

Date of Race: 19 Nov 2017 Just a few months after our first child (my fourth) was born, Liz ran her first marathon at the California International Marathon. She nabbed her first ultra with a 50k finish the following summer, and then it was on to baby number two. We welcomed our second child this … Continue reading

Strangers in the Night – Pacing the 2017 Rio Del Lago 100

The call came in via Facebook. Someone I had never met, asking for pacers at the 2017 Rio Del Lago 100 mile event. She was confident of a finish, but wanted the push of a pacer, and the safety of someone else should something go wrong. I signed on the dotted line and that was … Continue reading

2017 Tahoe 200 Mile Endurance Run – on 20 miles of training…a Month

The first time I saw the 200 mile distance on Ultrasignup my mind was blown. I still remember it; a picture of Catra Corbett cruising along single track on some mountaintop with Lake Tahoe down in the distance. I had heard of and read about plenty of stage races before, but something about seeing that … Continue reading

Run Till You Die

Run Till You Die This is terrible advice. Then again… the alternative is worse. “I can’t do that.” I hate hearing “I could never do that! 2016 Lake Sonoma 50 – Training the Soul for the Soles

Fast, challenging, scenic, and fantastic. The Lake Sonoma 50 is a popular race, attracting some of the best in the sport. One of the wonderful things about the LS50 is the course allows you to see the leaders as they loop back. Watching them run is staggering. The power they exhibit is intense. Commentators will often use the term “raw power”, but I feel “honed, calibrated, and expertly crafted” best describes the level of performance on display…. Continue reading

2015 Folsom Lake Ultra Trail 110K Race Report

Date of Race: 10 Oct 2015 A Change of Plans… I had intended to close out 2015 with my first 100 mile distance, the Rio Del Lago –  accomplishing an incredible distance, on a beautiful course, in a scenic location, while taking home my first buckle, and a WSER ticket to boot. It was the … Continue reading

The Lover’s Leap of Faith 50K Race Report

The Mountains Are Calling If I don’t run (almost) daily I go crazy. It’s my stress release at the end of a day. However, trotting around the ‘burbs day in and day out doesn’t do it for me either. I have to get out, and get wild. Mountains, trees, rivers, lakes, oceans – the deeper into … Continue reading

5 Sept 2015 Updates

The last month has brought challenges and celebrations…it has been an intense end to a wonderful summer. My laptop hard drive died. This made life exceptionally difficult. I am now just getting it all back on track. Fortunately I am a computer geek by day so I am saving a lot of heartache and money … Continue reading
