Run Till You Die This is terrible advice. Then again… the alternative is worse. “I can’t do that.” I hate hearing “I could never do that! Its way farther than I could run.” Maybe they’ll talk about a 10k, a half marathon or even a marathon they’re training for…months down the road. Coach Travis, and …

Around the beginning of April, my wife and I were expecting the arrival of our second bundle of 3 am feedings and diaper changes, but madness still called my name. If I don’t run I go bonkers, the Siren’s call of the trail beckoned. Liz had run the Coastal Trail Run Big Basin 50K last …
…It had been 12 years since the last time I been up there, long before I was who I am now, and certainly before I was a runner. The mixed memories of my youth left me with a view that was grander than what lay before me. It was a sublime moment of reflection. Our memories of the past are often minimal when seen through the eyes our future selves….
Policy changes, cultural shifts, laws and regulations, financial costs…..These are things most runners cannot agree on….and things most politicians don’t understand.
As we move towards the future, we must ask ourselves:
How can we improve the sport of Mountain Ultra Trail Running?
The weekend before the Canyons, there is a nice, low key race series held just south of San Jose. There are 5K, 10K, 13.1, 18 mile, and 50K events. I plan on doing the 13.1 as that is a 10 mile day for me.
It looks beautiful. There is even a guided nature walk going on the same time that my wife and daughter will be going to while I stretch my legs on the course….
…Since we’re camping at the Canyons 100K, it’s also time to break out the gear from it’s winter hibernation and shake it out. I would rather make sure everything is where it is supposed to be during a trial run, rather than the weekend of a big event….
Fast, challenging, scenic, and fantastic. The Lake Sonoma 50 is a popular race, attracting some of the best in the sport. One of the wonderful things about the LS50 is the course allows you to see the leaders as they loop back. Watching them run is staggering. The power they exhibit is intense. Commentators will often use the term “raw power”, but I feel “honed, calibrated, and expertly crafted” best describes the level of performance on display….
With the Lake Sonoma 50, Gorge Waterfalls, Leona Divide 50, North Face Challenge, Brazos Bend, and so many other races in the coming days and weeks; I would like to turn back the clock to Jan 30, 2016. The days flew by on the calendar, closer and closer to the big day. Until, …
I love to run at night – it’s peaceful.
My wife worries when I do though, and prefers me to run in the day light hours or with bright colored clothing.
Despite the best intentions, people can still make bad choices. One time, I was at a cross walk, just blocks from home late one evening. The roads were almost empty, but I waited at the cross walk all the same. When the “Walk” signal illuminated, beckoning me across 5 lanes of two way traffic lanes, I heard an engine race.
The Trail Ahead.
Big things for 2016!
I am proud to announce I was selected for the Honey Stinger 2016 Hive Sponsorship program. I’m a Honey Stinger Athlete!
